Alan Hershey

Don Hershey’s son, Donald Alan Hershey, passed away on January 9th, 2020 at the age of 84. He studied architecture at Cornell University and later graduated from University of Rochester and created his own energy management firm. His brother Ken, survives him (their other brother, Bob is no longer living).

Historic Brighton presented a program on Don Hershey in January 2013. After the lecture, Don’s sons Ken and Al shared interesting and entertaining stories of their father. We fortunately caught one on video.

  1. Hi Peggi,
Thank you so much for this website! I’m Kristin Hershey Randall, the youngest granddaughter of Don Hershey. Unfortunately, we just lost Uncle Alan, but my dad, Ken Hershey (in the video you posted) is still going 88 years strong! Grandpa lives on in all his family and his wonderfully designed and built homes. I’m available to assist you with this website as needed/wanted. Hope to hear from you. Appreciate you!
    Kindly, Kristin

  2. Hi Peggi,

Thank you so much for continuing to update our Grandfather’s website. It’s truly heartwarming to read all the wonderful comments from so many who love our Grandpa’s unique home designs as much as our family does!

It was very sad for our family to lose our Uncle, Donald Alan Hershey who was Don Hershey’s youngest son, in January. As you know, Uncle Alan followed in his father’s footsteps and also studied architecture at Cornell University. Although he went into the Army and wasn’t able to finish his degree there, Uncle Alan was an incredibly creative and gifted architect in his own right. Now his stunning home, located on what our family calls “Hershey Hill” at 175 Baker Road in Victor, will be going on the market very soon. It is a classic mid-century modern style home co-designed and built by him and his father. It has many Don Hershey signature architectural features including cathedral ceilings, floor to ceiling trapezoid windows, and sunken living room. It is situated on a 5 acre private piece of property which includes two additional building lots which will also be for sale either separately or together with the house. I just thought I would let you know in case you know anyone looking to own an incredible piece of Hershey history!

I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy in these uncertain times.

    Sincerely,
    Tina Hershey Katsarsky
    Don Hershey’s Granddaughter
